Without a doubt you’ve seen women talk, rave, and rant about Pilates.  Why? Because it incorporates effective full-body calisthenic exercises!

Pilates began as techniques for rehabilitation by Joseph Pilates.  It is a safe form of exercise using  a floor mat and very little equipment – both of which are not requirements.  Although primarily practiced by women, men can also enjoy the benefits of Pilates.  It’s unfortunate that some men are too macho to try Pilates thinking it’s too “easy” or “simple” or worse, “ineffective.”  Many who try it for the first time sweat bullets and go home completely sore after the first session – haven’t you seen the movies?!

Pilates does not stress your body with excessive movements. Many of the movements are similar to isometric exercises. Like other calisthenic exercises, Pilates works many muscle groups at once.  With the proper technique, your body will develop more efficient methods of movement which are invaluable in your day-to-day life and when participating in sporting activities.

Many men who go to the gym for strength training but focus on only a fraction of the muscles in their bodies while other small muscles are then neglected and become weaker overtime – this is known as muscle imbalance.  Pilates helps balances the muscles in your body with natural calisthenic exercises, it’s no wonder some men who have never done Pilates sweat and strain themselves when participating in classes!

Why Pilates?

Pilates helps you look and feel your very best.  No matter what your age or condition, when performed properly it will benefit you.   Pilates is also a “flexible” exercise system much like other calisthenics. It allows modifications to the exercises to increase or decrease the difficulty. For example, much like doing modified pushups by doing them inclined and inclined.
